The students in this course will have the opportunity to practice the skills taught with children ranging from 6 months to 4 years. The Instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Safe Sitter is designed to prepare students to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. This Babysitting Training Camp follows the Safe Sitter curriculum. All Babysitting Camp attendees are strongly recommended to sign up for CPR training to improve their skills and qualifications for babysitting, and not to mention their ability to handle an emergency! On Friday, the add-on community CPR training course will be offered. Note that this camp runs Monday-Thursday. Teen-Red Cross Babysitting Course at Oak Bay Recreation Centre offers an interactive Red Cross certification course that teaches the basics of child care including: the business of babysitting, caring for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children. You may be surprised to hear that some babysitting courses are offered for teens as young as nine years old! I have no doubt that by next Spring I will look at my eldest child and marvel that not only can she stay alone for short periods of time but she can now start babysitting other children! The programs may differ from organization to organization but they essentially teach the same information and are designed for the before and after school times or occasional outing for parents. There are actually quite a few organizations that offer Home Alone Programs in Victoria. Here are some programs offered for nine years olds and older on staying home alone and babysitting. I can quickly run to the corner store for milk without having to haul everyone with me. I realize too that I am just that much more independent as well. I am not sure whether it is the longer days or having them outside more but I always marvel at how much more independent they have become since last year. Now that Spring has Sprung I realize just how much my three girls have grown over the last year.
